SISB @ Trinity Mathematics Competition

SISB is proud to announce that our team has won the Mathematics Competition held at Trinity International School on Thursday 28 November.

Singapore International School of Bangkok was represented by Sugus (P6 Love), Idy (P5 Love) and Mild (P4 Love). They were the youngest team in the competition, which included 10 international schools. The morning session was a very interesting collaboration among all the schools as our three participants were split up to mingle with the rest. There were more than ten nationalities, with age range from 9 to 16 years of age. This resulted in a fun and enriching project experience for our students. After the ice breakers and group activities, we proceeded to the actual competition, where Sugus, Idy and Mild competed with all the other teams. It was highly nerve-wrecking as teams got eliminated round after round. After two and a half hours of grueling problem solving, our team finally emerged champions, overcoming ‘older’ teams and nerves to clinch the title.

It was a rewarding and enriching experience, giving our students and teachers an opportunity to interact with other schools, exchanging ideas and discussions, collaboratively and competitively. We look forward to the next round!

Three students: Radmehr Mohammed Ali (Year 11 Love), Ratanasirimongkol Gawin (Year 11 Love) and Punyathorn Jeungsmarn (Arm, Year 10 Love) registered the EF Academic Global Teen 2014 Scholarship Speech Contest. The EF English Language Proficiency Assessment was held at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel on 7th June. Out of twenty-five contestants, our three students were among the fifteen who were selected for the final round.

On 14th June, the Speech Contest was held at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel. The 15 finalists were made to give a “3-minute-maximum” speech. The topic was what they “envisioned” themselves to be doing in England if they won the EF Global Teen scholarship; food, people and culture were some of the areas that they could explore.

The second part of the contest was to give another speech which topic was not announced until the contestants presented themselves in front of the panel of judges. Radmehr was asked: “What celebrity would you be?”; Gawin’s topic was: “If I could choose to live either in rural or urban surroundings, where would I choose?”; and, Arm’s was: “If you could be a superhero, which one would you choose and what would you do with your new persona?”

All contestants gave their best and finally, the organiser announced Arm as winner for the International School Category. The following is an extract of Arm’s speech:

Qns: If you could be a superhero, which one would you choose and what would you do with your new persona?
Ans: Batman, I like how this superhero dresses up as a bat – something he feared as a kid. I said if I’m scared of a rat, I’d dressed up as a rat, doesn’t matter how stupid I’d look. I’d like to strike fear into the heart of the criminal, and make sure they know this territory is under my watch.

Qns: What would be the criteria of your Robin?
Ans: I don’t really like having sidekicks, but if I must have one, he must understand me as a person. He must know that I am not a sociable person and I don’t like small talks, if he talks to me too much, I’m going to fire him. Most important of all, he must be serious with works, and keep formality in my bat cave, don’t be bringing girls in here, because it makes me jealous since I can’t find myself a girlfriend.

Arm, as the best speaker, received a free flight to UK with one week accommodation as prize.
Congratulations, Arm! Well done!

Congratulations to our Year 11 graduates on their outstanding IGCSE results!
